Wellness for Exotic Pets
Wellness exams are the most important part of your exotic pet’s health care. We recommend annual exams that allow us to review your pet’s health often and catch any early signs of disease. Typically, a wellness exam for an exotic pet will consist of:
Physical Exam |
---|
Lifestyle Assessment |
---|
Home Environment Assessment |
---|
Nutritional Needs |
---|
Diagnostic Testing |
---|
Behavior and Socialization Counseling |

Complete Care
An important part of exotic pet care is their habitat, nutrition, and socialization, which is why we emphasize these points during an annual check-up. Exotic pets, particularly reptiles and amphibians, fare better in environments that closely match their home habitat. For instance, all reptiles need an appropriate amount of UVB lighting and a temperature gradient within their enclosure. Without enough UVB exposure, your lizard or snake can suffer severe vitamin and nutrient deficiencies.
Sick Patients
Just like our canine and feline patients, our exotics are unable to tell us what is wrong. To aid us in our workup we offer both imaging and laboratory testing for our exotic critters. A number of these critters are prey animals and hence are very susceptible to stress. To reduce their stress we have the ability to utilize sedation if needed to enable us to obtain vital samples for diagnostics.
